In 2011, Russia’s trade with Afghanistan totaled $985,425,219, up 72.49% ($414,127,751) from 2010.

Russia’s exports to Afghanistan in 2011 totaled $954,399,710, up 73.75% ($405,111,001) from 2010.

Russia’s imports from Afghanistan in 2011 totaled $31,025,509, up 40.97% ($9,016,750) from 2010.

Russia’s trade surplus with Afghanistan in 2011 was $923,374,201, a 75.12% increase ($396,094,251) over 2010.

Afghanistan was Russia’s 69th largest trading partner in 2011 (down from 68th in 2010), accounting for 0.1198% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0913% in 2010).

Afghanistan was Russia’s 58th largest export market in 2011 (up from 61st in 2010), accounting for 0.1847% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.1383% in 2010).

Afghanistan was Russia’s 104th largest supplier in 2011 (down from 102nd in 2010), accounting for 0.0101% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0096% in 2010).

The major share of Russian exports to Afghanistan in 2011 (and in 2010) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 8.28% of Russia’s total exports to Afghanistan (10.57% in 2010);

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 4.92% of Russia’s total imports from Afghanistan (1.74% in 2010);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 1.36% of Russia’s total imports from Afghanistan (0.76% in 2010).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Afghanistan in 2011 over 2010 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $10,904,555;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $1,126,436;
