Russia’s Trade with Algeria

In 2012, Russia’s trade with Algeria totaled $2,785,250,936, up 12.00% ($298,342,009) from 2011.

Russia’s exports to Algeria in 2012 totaled $2,781,550,279, up 11.97% ($297,263,701) from 2011.

Russia’s imports from Algeria in 2012 totaled $3,700,657, up 41.12% ($1,078,308) from 2011.

Russia’s trade surplus with Algeria in 2012 was $2,777,849,622, a 11.93% increase ($296,185,393) over 2011.

Algeria was Russia’s 42nd largest trading partner in 2012 (up from 43rd in 2011), accounting for 0.3308% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.3024% in 2011).

Algeria was Russia’s 32nd largest export market in 2012 (down from 31st in 2011), accounting for 0.5301% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.4808% in 2011).

Algeria was Russia’s 130th largest supplier in 2012 (up from 137th in 2011), accounting for 0.0012% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0009% in 2011).

Russia’s Exports to Algeria

The major share of Russian exports to Algeria in 2012 (and in 2011) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 45.51% of Russia’s total exports to Algeria (30.03% in 2011);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 14.34% of Russia’s total exports to Algeria (2.44% in 2011);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.47% of Russia’s total exports to Algeria (2.41% in 2011);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 1.11% of Russia’s total exports to Algeria (0.25% in 2011).

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Algeria in 2012 over 2011 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - a decrease of $228,085,274;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $51,980,124;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $39,038,148.

The major share of Russian imports from Algeria in 2012 (and in 2011) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 93.74% of Russia’s total imports from Algeria (71.07% in 2011);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 4.84% of Russia’s total imports from Algeria (20.46% in 2011);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 0.93% of Russia’s total imports from Algeria (6.71% in 2011);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 0.16% of Russia’s total imports from Algeria (1.76% in 2011).
