Russia’s Trade with Azerbaijan

In 2012, Russia’s trade with Azerbaijan totaled $3,409,221,719, up 10.83% ($333,010,140) from 2011.

Russia’s exports to Azerbaijan in 2012 totaled $2,845,690,668, up 13.62% ($341,188,556) from 2011.

Russia’s imports from Azerbaijan in 2012 were $563,531,051, down 1.43% ($8,178,416) from 2011.

Russia’s trade surplus with Azerbaijan in 2012 was $2,282,159,617, a 18.08% increase ($349,366,972) over 2011.

Azerbaijan was Russia’s 37th largest trading partner in 2012 (just as in 2011), accounting for 0.4049% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.3740% in 2011).

Azerbaijan was Russia’s 31st largest export market in 2012 (down from 30th in 2011), accounting for 0.5423% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.4847% in 2011).

Azerbaijan was Russia’s 52nd largest supplier in 2012 (down from 49th in 2011), accounting for 0.1776% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.1870% in 2011).

The major share of Russian exports to Azerbaijan in 2012 (and in 2011) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 20.66% of Russia’s total exports to Azerbaijan (22.30% in 2011);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 16.20% of Russia’s total exports to Azerbaijan (19.01% in 2011);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 12.63% of Russia’s total exports to Azerbaijan (13.62% in 2011);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 10.38% of Russia’s total exports to Azerbaijan (11.08% in 2011);

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Azerbaijan in 2012 over 2011 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - a decrease of $58,990,228;
