Russia’s Trade with China

In 2012, Russia’s trade with China totaled $87,393,816,378, up 5.00% ($4,161,866,463) from 2011.

Russia’s exports to China in 2012 totaled $35,765,828,810, up 2.10% ($735,711,209) from 2011.

Russia’s imports from China in 2012 totaled $51,627,987,568, up 7.11% ($3,426,155,254) from 2011.

Russia’s trade deficit with China in 2012 was $15,862,158,758, a 20.43% increase ($2,690,444,045) over 2011.

China was Russia’s largest trading partner in 2012 (just as in 2011), accounting for 10.3793% of Russia’s total trade (up from 10.1197% in 2011).

China was Russia’s 2nd largest export market in 2012 (just as in 2011), accounting for 6.8160% of Russia’s total exports (up from 6.7794% in 2011).

China was Russia’s largest supplier in 2012 (just as in 2011), accounting for 16.2729% of Russia’s total imports (up from 15.7646% in 2011).

Russia’s Exports to China

The major share of Russian exports to China in 2012 (and in 2011) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 75.71% of Russia’s total exports to China (72.27% in 2011);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 8.62% of Russia’s total exports to China (9.88% in 2011);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 8.02% of Russia’s total exports to China (9.60% in 2011);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.26% of Russia’s total exports to China (2.40% in 2011);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 2.87% of Russia’s total exports to China (2.76% in 2011);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 0.98% of Russia’s total exports to China (1.47% in 2011).
