Russia’s Trade with Egypt

In 2012, Russia’s trade with Egypt totaled $3,554,966,648, up 26.05% ($734,795,272) from 2011.

Russia’s exports to Egypt in 2012 totaled $3,212,235,911, up 37.45% ($875,257,514) from 2011.

Russia’s imports from Egypt in 2012 were $342,730,737, down 29.07% ($140,462,242) from 2011.

Russia’s trade surplus with Egypt in 2012 was $2,869,505,174, a 54.79% increase ($1,015,719,756) over 2011.

Egypt was Russia’s 36th largest trading partner in 2012 (up from 41st in 2011), accounting for 0.4222% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.3429% in 2011).

Egypt was Russia’s 30th largest export market in 2012 (up from 32nd in 2011), accounting for 0.6122% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.4523% in 2011).

Egypt was Russia’s 63rd largest supplier in 2012 (down from 52nd in 2011), accounting for 0.1080% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.1580% in 2011).

Russia’s Exports to Egypt

The major share of Russian exports to Egypt in 2012 (and in 2011) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 56.18% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (58.01% in 2011);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 15.32% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (18.07% in 2011);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 10.50% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (4.59% in 2011);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 9.14% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (7.55% in 2011);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.17% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (4.65% in 2011);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 1.08% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (1.47% in 2011).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Egypt in 2012 over 2011 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $306,276,713;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $243,288,502;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $136,730,549;
  • Copper and articles thereof (HS code 74) - an increase of $71,527,080;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $66,514,410;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $52,034,325;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $9,784,187.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Egypt in 2012 over 2011 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $16,945,616;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - a decrease of $10,657,995.

Russia’s Imports from Egypt

The major share of Russian imports from Egypt in 2012 (and in 2011) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 76.77% of Russia’s total imports from Egypt (86.59% in 2011);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 11.40% of Russia’s total imports from Egypt (6.34% in 2011);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.68% of Russia’s total imports from Egypt (2.65% in 2011);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 2.92% of Russia’s total imports from Egypt (0.98% in 2011);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.45% of Russia’s total imports from Egypt (1.89% in 2011).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Egypt in 2012 over 2011 were recorded for the following product groups:
