Russia’s Trade with Iceland

In 2012, Russia’s trade with Iceland totaled $212,145,495, up 1.75% ($3,649,396) from 2011.

Russia’s exports to Iceland in 2012 totaled $31,266,754, up 179.01% ($20,060,558) from 2011.

Russia’s imports from Iceland in 2012 were $180,878,741, down 8.32% ($16,411,162) from 2011.

Russia’s trade deficit with Iceland in 2012 was $149,611,987, a 19.60% decrease ($36,471,720) over 2011.

Iceland was Russia’s 95th largest trading partner in 2012 (up from 98th in 2011), accounting for 0.0252% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0253% in 2011).

Iceland was Russia’s 116th largest export market in 2012 (up from 131st in 2011), accounting for 0.0060% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0022% in 2011).

Iceland was Russia’s 72nd largest supplier in 2012 (down from 70th in 2011), accounting for 0.0570% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0645% in 2011).

Russia’s Exports to Iceland

The major share of Russian exports to Iceland in 2012 (and in 2011) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 70.92% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (46.44% in 2011);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 15.71% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (16.03% in 2011);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 5.87% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (17.72% in 2011);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 3.18% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (10.51% in 2011);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 1.95% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (3.49% in 2011);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 0.80% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (1.45% in 2011).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Iceland in 2012 over 2011 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $19,830,241;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $2,996,005;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - an increase of $461,132;
  • Wadding, felt and nonwovens; special yarns, twine, cordage, ropes and cables and articles thereof (HS code 56) - an increase of $100,823.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Iceland in 2012 over 2011 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - a decrease of $2,862,901;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $264,086;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $198,306;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $186,476.

Russia’s Imports from Iceland

The major share of Russian imports from Iceland in 2012 (and in 2011) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 90.21% of Russia’s total imports from Iceland (88.85% in 2011);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.29% of Russia’s total imports from Iceland (6.98% in 2011);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 4.32% of Russia’s total imports from Iceland (3.18% in 2011).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Iceland in 2012 over 2011 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Meat and edible meat offal (HS code 02) - an increase of $2,720,300;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $2,068,582;
  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - an increase of $1,573,851;
  • Preparations of meat, of fish or of crustaceans, molluscs or other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 16) - an increase of $1,292,997.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Iceland in 2012 over 2011 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - a decrease of $16,238,419;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $4,512,459;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $2,188,880;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $1,703,041.
