Russia’s Trade with Norway

In 2012, Russia’s trade with Norway was $2,700,890,819, down 9.24% ($275,067,123) from 2011.

Russia’s exports to Norway in 2012 were $910,325,043, down 15.08% ($161,644,496) from 2011.

Russia’s imports from Norway in 2012 were $1,790,565,776, down 5.96% ($113,422,627) from 2011.

Russia’s trade deficit with Norway in 2012 was $880,240,733, a 5.80% increase ($48,221,869) over 2011.

Norway was Russia’s 43rd largest trading partner in 2012 (down from 39th in 2011), accounting for 0.3208% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.3618% in 2011).

Norway was Russia’s 58th largest export market in 2012 (down from 55th in 2011), accounting for 0.1735% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.2075% in 2011).

Norway was Russia’s 31st largest supplier in 2012 (down from 29th in 2011), accounting for 0.5644% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.6227% in 2011).

Russia’s Exports to Norway

The major share of Russian exports to Norway in 2012 (and in 2011) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 62.39% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (52.31% in 2011);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 15.58% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (26.39% in 2011);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 9.49% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (4.19% in 2011);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 8.45% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (8.62% in 2011);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.45% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (1.59% in 2011);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.41% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (5.92% in 2011).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Norway in 2012 over 2011 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $32,283,084;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $14,550,061;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $7,377,190;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $3,713,247;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $3,316,530;
  • Residues and waste from the food industries; prepared animal feed (HS code 23) - an increase of $3,168,303.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Norway in 2012 over 2011 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $103,020,159;
  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - a decrease of $49,226,922;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $23,994,347;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $21,372,007;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $14,704,718;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $6,577,389;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $3,859,680;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - a decrease of $3,404,111.
