Russia’s Trade with Pakistan

In 2012, Russia’s trade with Pakistan totaled $542,144,419, up 13.91% ($66,196,708) from 2011.

Russia’s exports to Pakistan in 2012 totaled $209,951,166, up 65.92% ($83,411,712) from 2011.

Russia’s imports from Pakistan in 2012 were $332,193,253, down 4.93% ($17,215,004) from 2011.

Russia’s trade deficit with Pakistan in 2012 was $122,242,087, a 45.15% decrease ($100,626,716) over 2011.

Pakistan was Russia’s 78th largest trading partner in 2012 (up from 82nd in 2011), accounting for 0.0644% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0579% in 2011).

Pakistan was Russia’s 83rd largest export market in 2012 (up from 92nd in 2011), accounting for 0.0400% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0245% in 2011).

Pakistan was Russia’s 64th largest supplier in 2012 (down from 62nd in 2011), accounting for 0.1047% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.1143% in 2011).

Russia’s Exports to Pakistan

The major share of Russian exports to Pakistan in 2012 (and in 2011) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 59.32% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (25.81% in 2011);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 27.47% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (57.92% in 2011);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 6.40% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (8.00% in 2011);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 3.26% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (3.46% in 2011);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.98% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (1.28% in 2011);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 0.00% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (1.02% in 2011).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Pakistan in 2012 over 2011 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $90,945,843;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $3,234,568;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $3,183,476;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $2,475,061;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $937,403;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $829,802.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Pakistan in 2012 over 2011 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $14,668,777;
  • Other made up textile articles; sets; worn clothing and worn textile articles; rags (HS code 63) - a decrease of $1,259,710;
  • Preparations of meat, of fish or of crustaceans, molluscs or other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 16) - a decrease of $1,232,000;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $1,199,726.

Russia’s Imports from Pakistan

The major share of Russian imports from Pakistan in 2012 (and in 2011) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 51.13% of Russia’s total imports from Pakistan (40.38% in 2011);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 34.11% of Russia’s total imports from Pakistan (47.09% in 2011);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.09% of Russia’s total imports from Pakistan (2.68% in 2011);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.99% of Russia’s total imports from Pakistan (1.43% in 2011).
