Russia’s Trade with Saudi Arabia

In 2012, Russia’s trade with Saudi Arabia totaled $1,358,689,797, up 59.48% ($506,716,211) from 2011.

Russia’s exports to Saudi Arabia in 2012 totaled $1,088,625,466, up 69.28% ($445,533,559) from 2011.

Russia’s imports from Saudi Arabia in 2012 totaled $270,064,331, up 29.29% ($61,182,652) from 2011.

Russia’s trade surplus with Saudi Arabia in 2012 was $818,561,135, a 88.52% increase ($384,350,907) over 2011.

Saudi Arabia was Russia’s 63rd largest trading partner in 2012 (up from 70th in 2011), accounting for 0.1614% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.1036% in 2011).

Saudi Arabia was Russia’s 55th largest export market in 2012 (up from 65th in 2011), accounting for 0.2075% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.1245% in 2011).

Saudi Arabia was Russia’s 66th largest supplier in 2012 (up from 69th in 2011), accounting for 0.0851% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0683% in 2011).

Russia’s Exports to Saudi Arabia

The major share of Russian exports to Saudi Arabia in 2012 (and in 2011) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 51.87% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (59.65% in 2011);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 26.82% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (31.32% in 2011);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 16.48% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (0.00% in 2011);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.39% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (3.84% in 2011);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 2.19% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (0.60% in 2011);

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $178,708,343;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $103,459,748;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - an increase of $16,963,562;
  • Copper and articles thereof (HS code 74) - an increase of $11,381,408.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Saudi Arabia in 2012 over 2011 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $14,034,554;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $11,036,760;
  • Lead and articles thereof (HS code 78) - a decrease of $8,719,908.

Russia’s Imports from Saudi Arabia

The major share of Russian imports from Saudi Arabia in 2012 (and in 2011) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 86.65% of Russia’s total imports from Saudi Arabia (83.55% in 2011);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 6.57% of Russia’s total imports from Saudi Arabia (11.64% in 2011);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 2.73% of Russia’s total imports from Saudi Arabia (2.19% in 2011);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.09% of Russia’s total imports from Saudi Arabia (1.97% in 2011);

  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $2,787,176;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $1,148,618;
  • Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal; parts thereof of base metal (HS code 82) - an increase of $1,082,714.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Saudi Arabia in 2012 over 2011 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $11,630,167;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - a decrease of $6,726,709;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $5,960,652;
  • Tanning or dyeing extracts; dyes, pigments, paints, varnishes, putty and mastics (HS code 32) - a decrease of $1,080,733.
