Russia’s Trade with Spain

In 2012, Russia’s trade with Spain totaled $10,633,813,022, up 1.55% ($162,635,133) from 2011.

Russia’s exports to Spain in 2012 were $5,720,784,809, down 7.21% ($444,323,835) from 2011.

Russia’s imports from Spain in 2012 totaled $4,913,028,213, up 14.10% ($606,958,968) from 2011.

Russia’s trade surplus with Spain in 2012 was $807,756,596, a 56.55% decrease ($1,051,282,803) over 2011.

Spain was Russia’s 18th largest trading partner in 2012 (up from 19th in 2011), accounting for 1.2629% of Russia’s total trade (down from 1.2731% in 2011).

Spain was Russia’s 24th largest export market in 2012 (down from 22nd in 2011), accounting for 1.0902% of Russia’s total exports (down from 1.1931% in 2011).

Spain was Russia’s 17th largest supplier in 2012 (up from 18th in 2011), accounting for 1.5486% of Russia’s total imports (up from 1.4083% in 2011).

Russia’s Exports to Spain

The major share of Russian exports to Spain in 2012 (and in 2011) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 88.81% of Russia’s total exports to Spain (87.68% in 2011);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 5.07% of Russia’s total exports to Spain (2.15% in 2011);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.07% of Russia’s total exports to Spain (5.50% in 2011);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 1.25% of Russia’s total exports to Spain (2.89% in 2011).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Spain in 2012 over 2011 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $56,996,192;
  • Residues and waste from the food industries; prepared animal feed (HS code 23) - an increase of $41,610,427;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $31,212,983;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - an increase of $25,147,889;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $24,453,659.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Spain in 2012 over 2011 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $350,437,452;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $87,026,111;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $84,901,127;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $24,500,789;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $18,198,256.

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 30.35% of Russia’s total imports from Spain (32.07% in 2011);

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 5.38% of Russia’s total imports from Spain (5.68% in 2011);
