Russia’s Trade with Taiwan

In 2012, Russia’s trade with Taiwan totaled $5,325,319,527, up 28.58% ($1,183,788,054) from 2011.

Russia’s exports to Taiwan in 2012 totaled $3,321,683,392, up 57.88% ($1,217,777,908) from 2011.

Russia’s imports from Taiwan in 2012 were $2,003,636,135, down 1.67% ($33,989,854) from 2011.

Russia’s trade surplus with Taiwan in 2012 was $1,318,047,257, a 1,888.62% increase ($1,251,767,762) over 2011.

Taiwan was Russia’s 28th largest trading partner in 2012 (up from 30th in 2011), accounting for 0.6325% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.5035% in 2011).

Taiwan was Russia’s 29th largest export market in 2012 (up from 37th in 2011), accounting for 0.6330% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.4072% in 2011).

Taiwan was Russia’s 29th largest supplier in 2012 (down from 27th in 2011), accounting for 0.6315% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.6664% in 2011).

Russia’s Exports to Taiwan

The major share of Russian exports to Taiwan in 2012 (and in 2011) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 50.35% of Russia’s total exports to Taiwan (22.49% in 2011);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 44.57% of Russia’s total exports to Taiwan (65.71% in 2011);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 2.19% of Russia’s total exports to Taiwan (5.50% in 2011);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.07% of Russia’s total exports to Taiwan (1.88% in 2011);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.89% of Russia’s total exports to Taiwan (2.71% in 2011);
  • Precious metals and stones (HS code 71) - 0.46% of Russia’s total exports to Taiwan (1.28% in 2011).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Taiwan in 2012 over 2011 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $1,199,285,601;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $56,505,837;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $35,721,621.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Taiwan in 2012 over 2011 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $17,989,684;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $14,002,489;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $12,317,711;
  • Natural or cultured pearls, precious or semi-precious stones,precious metals, metals clad with precious metal and articles thereof; imitation jewelry; coin (HS code 71) - a decrease of $11,582,174;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $10,338,826.

Russia’s Imports from Taiwan

The major share of Russian imports from Taiwan in 2012 (and in 2011) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 68.90% of Russia’s total imports from Taiwan (67.82% in 2011);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 13.18% of Russia’s total imports from Taiwan (11.96% in 2011);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 9.37% of Russia’s total imports from Taiwan (9.89% in 2011);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 2.47% of Russia’s total imports from Taiwan (5.17% in 2011).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Taiwan in 2012 over 2011 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $21,631,719;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $21,368,884;
  • Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal; parts thereof of base metal (HS code 82) - an increase of $19,866,594;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $8,876,478;
  • Toys, games and sports requisites; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 95) - an increase of $7,202,861;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $6,487,313;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $6,264,895.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Taiwan in 2012 over 2011 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Footwear, gaiters and the like; parts of such articles (HS code 64) - a decrease of $63,720,273;
