Russia’s Trade with Brazil

In 2013, Russia’s trade with Brazil was $5,477,505,549, down 3.28% ($185,574,857) from 2012.

Russia’s exports to Brazil in 2013 were $1,984,660,467, down 13.88% ($319,816,186) from 2012.

Russia’s imports from Brazil in 2013 totaled $3,492,845,082, up 4.00% ($134,241,329) from 2012.

Russia’s trade deficit with Brazil in 2013 was $1,508,184,615, a 43.07% increase ($454,057,515) over 2012.

Brazil was Russia’s 28th largest trading partner in 2013 (down from 27th in 2012), accounting for 0.6504% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.6726% in 2012).

Brazil was Russia’s 39th largest export market in 2013 (down from 35th in 2012), accounting for 0.3764% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.4392% in 2012).

Brazil was Russia’s 22nd largest supplier in 2013 (just as in 2012), accounting for 1.1090% of Russia’s total imports (up from 1.0586% in 2012).

Russia’s Exports to Brazil

The major share of Russian exports to Brazil in 2013 (and in 2012) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 80.63% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (74.66% in 2012);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 10.41% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (14.47% in 2012);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 6.12% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (4.68% in 2012);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.90% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (1.00% in 2012).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Brazil in 2013 over 2012 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $12,697,671.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Brazil in 2013 over 2012 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $126,031,937;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $79,797,409;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $47,093,822;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $9,203,009.

Russia’s Imports from Brazil

The major share of Russian imports from Brazil in 2013 (and in 2012) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 84.06% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (83.79% in 2012);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.98% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (4.75% in 2012);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 4.76% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (6.82% in 2012);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 1.58% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (1.66% in 2012);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 1.24% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (1.09% in 2012).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Brazil in 2013 over 2012 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Meat and edible meat offal (HS code 02) - an increase of $281,968,921;
  • Residues and waste from the food industries; prepared animal feed (HS code 23) - an increase of $81,749,560;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $45,029,924;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - an increase of $11,173,286.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Brazil in 2013 over 2012 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - a decrease of $98,563,033;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - a decrease of $54,663,733;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $39,257,341;
  • Sugars and sugar confectionery (HS code 17) - a decrease of $27,496,706;
