Russia’s Trade with Ghana

In 2013, Russia’s trade with Ghana was $162,848,323, down 40.49% ($110,817,296) from 2012.

Russia’s exports to Ghana in 2013 were $68,822,456, down 58.45% ($96,820,015) from 2012.

Russia’s imports from Ghana in 2013 were $94,025,867, down 12.96% ($13,997,281) from 2012.

Russia’s trade balance with Ghana went from a surplus of $57,619,323 in 2012, to a deficit of $25,203,411 in 2013.

Ghana was Russia’s 103rd largest trading partner in 2013 (down from 88th in 2012), accounting for 0.0193% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0325% in 2012).

Ghana was Russia’s 106th largest export market in 2013 (down from 91st in 2012), accounting for 0.0131% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0316% in 2012).

Ghana was Russia’s 85th largest supplier in 2013 (down from 80th in 2012), accounting for 0.0299% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0340% in 2012).

Russia’s Exports to Ghana

The major share of Russian exports to Ghana in 2013 (and in 2012) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 51.34% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (33.80% in 2012);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 19.72% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (7.42% in 2012);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 13.63% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (0.49% in 2012);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 7.77% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (14.05% in 2012);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 4.59% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (0.70% in 2012);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.56% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (6.30% in 2012).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Ghana in 2013 over 2012 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $8,208,800;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $1,324,668;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $1,307,977;
  • Meat and edible meat offal (HS code 02) - an increase of $1,142,427;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $667,109.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Ghana in 2013 over 2012 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $20,049,846;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $17,507,714;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $3,855,533;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $2,526,512;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $2,106,094;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - a decrease of $811,636;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $324,828;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $256,949;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $234,092.

Russia’s Imports from Ghana

The major share of Russian imports from Ghana in 2013 (and in 2012) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 97.58% of Russia’s total imports from Ghana (97.80% in 2012);
