Russia’s Trade with Iceland

In 2013, Russia’s trade with Iceland was $211,023,713, down 0.53% ($1,121,782) from 2012.

Russia’s exports to Iceland in 2013 were $16,046,054, down 48.68% ($15,220,700) from 2012.

Russia’s imports from Iceland in 2013 totaled $194,977,659, up 7.79% ($14,098,918) from 2012.

Russia’s trade deficit with Iceland in 2013 was $178,931,605, a 19.60% increase ($29,319,618) over 2012.

Iceland was Russia’s 98th largest trading partner in 2013 (down from 95th in 2012), accounting for 0.0251% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0252% in 2012).

Iceland was Russia’s 132nd largest export market in 2013 (down from 116th in 2012), accounting for 0.0030% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0060% in 2012).

Iceland was Russia’s 73rd largest supplier in 2013 (down from 72nd in 2012), accounting for 0.0619% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0570% in 2012).

Russia’s Exports to Iceland

The major share of Russian exports to Iceland in 2013 (and in 2012) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 41.58% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (70.92% in 2012);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 40.09% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (15.71% in 2012);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 8.42% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (3.18% in 2012);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 6.66% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (5.87% in 2012);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 1.28% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (1.95% in 2012);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.05% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (0.38% in 2012).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Iceland in 2013 over 2012 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $1,313,064;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - an increase of $554,656;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $356,925;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $172,903;
  • Miscellaneous articles of base metal (HS code 83) - an increase of $71,279.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Iceland in 2013 over 2012 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $16,054,529;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $435,615;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - a decrease of $389,738;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $258,879;
  • Wadding, felt and nonwovens; special yarns, twine, cordage, ropes and cables and articles thereof (HS code 56) - a decrease of $200,037;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $56,222.

Russia’s Imports from Iceland

The major share of Russian imports from Iceland in 2013 (and in 2012) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 90.53% of Russia’s total imports from Iceland (90.21% in 2012);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.89% of Russia’s total imports from Iceland (5.29% in 2012);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.04% of Russia’s total imports from Iceland (4.32% in 2012).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Iceland in 2013 over 2012 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - an increase of $13,751,232;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $1,948,617;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $833,023;
