Russia’s Trade with Iceland

In 2014, Russia’s trade with Iceland totaled $274,957,045, up 30.30% ($63,933,332) from 2013.

Russia’s exports to Iceland in 2014 totaled $19,333,135, up 20.49% ($3,287,081) from 2013.

Russia’s imports from Iceland in 2014 totaled $255,623,910, up 31.10% ($60,646,251) from 2013.

Russia’s trade deficit with Iceland in 2014 was $236,290,775, a 32.06% increase ($57,359,170) over 2013.

Iceland was Russia’s 97th largest trading partner in 2014 (up from 98th in 2013), accounting for 0.0351% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0251% in 2013).

Iceland was Russia’s 132nd largest export market in 2014 (just as in 2013), accounting for 0.0039% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0030% in 2013).

Iceland was Russia’s 69th largest supplier in 2014 (up from 73rd in 2013), accounting for 0.0894% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0619% in 2013).

Russia’s Exports to Iceland

The major share of Russian exports to Iceland in 2014 (and in 2013) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 28.20% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (41.58% in 2013);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 8.75% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (8.42% in 2013);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 7.46% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (6.66% in 2013);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.97% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (40.09% in 2013);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.92% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (1.05% in 2013);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 0.59% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (1.28% in 2013).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Iceland in 2014 over 2013 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $657,063;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $376,095;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $337,081;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - an increase of $117,699;
  • Wadding, felt and nonwovens; special yarns, twine, cordage, ropes and cables and articles thereof (HS code 56) - an increase of $77,420.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Iceland in 2014 over 2013 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $4,973,278;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - a decrease of $930,050;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $288,099;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $264,837;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - a decrease of $71,394;
  • Miscellaneous articles of base metal (HS code 83) - a decrease of $71,279.

Russia’s Imports from Iceland

The major share of Russian imports from Iceland in 2014 (and in 2013) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 93.69% of Russia’s total imports from Iceland (90.53% in 2013);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.87% of Russia’s total imports from Iceland (3.04% in 2013);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 2.26% of Russia’s total imports from Iceland (5.89% in 2013).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Iceland in 2014 over 2013 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - an increase of $61,934,620;
  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - an increase of $3,902,804;
