Russia’s Trade with Iran

In 2014, Russia’s trade with Iran totaled $1,682,419,647, up 5.05% ($80,882,562) from 2013.

Russia’s exports to Iran in 2014 totaled $1,327,169,324, up 13.57% ($158,553,219) from 2013.

Russia’s imports from Iran in 2014 were $355,250,323, down 17.94% ($77,670,657) from 2013.

Russia’s trade surplus with Iran in 2014 was $971,919,001, a 32.11% increase ($236,223,876) over 2013.

Iran was Russia’s 54th largest trading partner in 2014 (up from 59th in 2013), accounting for 0.2149% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.1902% in 2013).

Iran was Russia’s 49th largest export market in 2014 (up from 55th in 2013), accounting for 0.2671% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.2216% in 2013).

Iran was Russia’s 61st largest supplier in 2014 (down from 60th in 2013), accounting for 0.1242% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.1374% in 2013).

Russia’s Exports to Iran

The major share of Russian exports to Iran in 2014 (and in 2013) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 45.11% of Russia’s total exports to Iran (30.88% in 2013);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 30.23% of Russia’s total exports to Iran (31.92% in 2013);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 13.15% of Russia’s total exports to Iran (18.37% in 2013);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 6.79% of Russia’s total exports to Iran (10.99% in 2013);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 2.11% of Russia’s total exports to Iran (2.29% in 2013);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 2.11% of Russia’s total exports to Iran (5.08% in 2013).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Iran in 2014 over 2013 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $228,416,998;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $32,701,375;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $10,952,156;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - an increase of $7,647,062.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Iran in 2014 over 2013 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $36,007,197;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $31,417,664;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $25,463,545;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $10,154,886;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - a decrease of $5,201,114;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - a decrease of $5,084,889;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $4,667,833;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $4,356,053.
