Russia’s Trade with Japan

In 2014, Russia’s trade with Japan was $30,797,160,625, down 7.32% ($2,430,846,972) from 2013.

Russia’s exports to Japan in 2014 totaled $19,875,178,051, up 1.06% ($207,670,414) from 2013.

Russia’s imports from Japan in 2014 were $10,921,982,574, down 19.46% ($2,638,517,386) from 2013.

Russia’s trade surplus with Japan in 2014 was $8,953,195,477, a 46.61% increase ($2,846,187,800) over 2013.

Japan was Russia’s 7th largest trading partner in 2014 (just as in 2013), accounting for 3.9336% of Russia’s total trade (down from 3.9452% in 2013).

Japan was Russia’s 6th largest export market in 2014 (up from 8th in 2013), accounting for 3.9995% of Russia’s total exports (up from 3.7301% in 2013).

Japan was Russia’s 6th largest supplier in 2014 (up from 7th in 2013), accounting for 3.8191% of Russia’s total imports (down from 4.3054% in 2013).

Russia’s Exports to Japan

The major share of Russian exports to Japan in 2014 (and in 2013) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 87.28% of Russia’s total exports to Japan (87.13% in 2013);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 5.65% of Russia’s total exports to Japan (4.78% in 2013);
  • Precious metals and stones (HS code 71) - 2.67% of Russia’s total exports to Japan (2.85% in 2013);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.30% of Russia’s total exports to Japan (2.56% in 2013);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 1.24% of Russia’s total exports to Japan (1.12% in 2013);
