Russia’s Trade with Nigeria

In 2014, Russia’s trade with Nigeria totaled $368,143,252, up 23.08% ($69,030,069) from 2013.

Russia’s exports to Nigeria in 2014 totaled $351,617,063, up 31.26% ($83,735,274) from 2013.

Russia’s imports from Nigeria in 2014 were $16,526,189, down 47.08% ($14,705,205) from 2013.

Russia’s trade surplus with Nigeria in 2014 was $335,090,874, a 41.60% increase ($98,440,479) over 2013.

Nigeria was Russia’s 90th largest trading partner in 2014 (up from 93rd in 2013), accounting for 0.0470% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0355% in 2013).

Nigeria was Russia’s 76th largest export market in 2014 (up from 80th in 2013), accounting for 0.0708% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0508% in 2013).

Nigeria was Russia’s 107th largest supplier in 2014 (down from 100th in 2013), accounting for 0.0058% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0099% in 2013).

Russia’s Exports to Nigeria

The major share of Russian exports to Nigeria in 2014 (and in 2013) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 58.75% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (23.10% in 2013);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 22.43% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (54.34% in 2013);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 8.38% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (12.68% in 2013);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 6.61% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (7.65% in 2013);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 3.22% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (1.75% in 2013).

  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - an increase of $10,454,132;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $5,373,116;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $2,911,909;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $1,609,707;
  • Pulp of wood or of other fibrous cellulosic material; waste and scrap of paper or paperboard (HS code 47) - an increase of $1,286,161;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $1,168,058.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Nigeria in 2014 over 2013 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $69,883,219;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $5,210,221.

Russia’s Imports from Nigeria

The major share of Russian imports from Nigeria in 2014 (and in 2013) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 95.92% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (96.00% in 2013);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 3.90% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (3.54% in 2013).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Nigeria in 2014 over 2013 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - an increase of $125,984;
  • Soap, organic surface-active agents, washing preparations, lubricating preparations, artificial waxes, prepared waxes, polishing or scouring preparations, candles and similar articles, modeling pastes, "dental waxes" and dental preparations with a basis of plaster (HS code 34) - an increase of $119,218.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Nigeria in 2014 over 2013 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - a decrease of $13,386,026;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - a decrease of $798,888;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $581,093;
  • Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons (HS code 08) - a decrease of $57,318.
