Russia’s Trade with Saudi Arabia

In 2014, Russia’s trade with Saudi Arabia totaled $1,164,555,546, up 8.06% ($86,829,037) from 2013.

Russia’s exports to Saudi Arabia in 2014 totaled $897,544,794, up 13.74% ($108,441,514) from 2013.

Russia’s imports from Saudi Arabia in 2014 were $267,010,752, down 7.49% ($21,612,477) from 2013.

Russia’s trade surplus with Saudi Arabia in 2014 was $630,534,042, a 25.99% increase ($130,053,991) over 2013.

Saudi Arabia was Russia’s 66th largest trading partner in 2014 (up from 68th in 2013), accounting for 0.1487% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.1280% in 2013).

Saudi Arabia was Russia’s 60th largest export market in 2014 (up from 61st in 2013), accounting for 0.1806% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.1497% in 2013).

Saudi Arabia was Russia’s 67th largest supplier in 2014 (up from 68th in 2013), accounting for 0.0934% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0916% in 2013).

Russia’s Exports to Saudi Arabia

The major share of Russian exports to Saudi Arabia in 2014 (and in 2013) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 40.24% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (43.56% in 2013);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 30.97% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (36.94% in 2013);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 18.25% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (9.84% in 2013);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.95% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (4.94% in 2013);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 3.54% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (3.00% in 2013);

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $86,195,647;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $24,626,205;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $20,606,153;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - an increase of $8,678,782;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $6,806,556;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $2,928,345;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $2,902,207.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Saudi Arabia in 2014 over 2013 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $21,173,296;
  • Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal; parts thereof of base metal (HS code 82) - a decrease of $9,939,402;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - a decrease of $7,138,792;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $3,862,620.

The major share of Russian imports from Saudi Arabia in 2014 (and in 2013) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 2.76% of Russia’s total imports from Saudi Arabia (2.31% in 2013);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.08% of Russia’s total imports from Saudi Arabia (0.65% in 2013);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.34% of Russia’s total imports from Saudi Arabia (1.47% in 2013).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Saudi Arabia in 2014 over 2013 were recorded for the following product groups:

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Saudi Arabia in 2014 over 2013 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $26,863,266;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $15,364,462;
