Russia’s Trade with Zimbabwe

In 2014, Russia’s trade with Zimbabwe totaled $42,136,996, up 71.43% ($17,557,806) from 2013.

Russia’s exports to Zimbabwe in 2014 totaled $9,128,594, up 96.78% ($4,489,655) from 2013.

Russia’s imports from Zimbabwe in 2014 totaled $33,008,402, up 65.54% ($13,068,151) from 2013.

Russia’s trade deficit with Zimbabwe in 2014 was $23,879,808, a 56.06% increase ($8,578,496) over 2013.

Zimbabwe was Russia’s 133rd largest trading partner in 2014 (up from 141st in 2013), accounting for 0.0054% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0029% in 2013).

Zimbabwe was Russia’s 140th largest export market in 2014 (up from 152nd in 2013), accounting for 0.0018% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0009% in 2013).

Zimbabwe was Russia’s 100th largest supplier in 2014 (up from 108th in 2013), accounting for 0.0115% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0063% in 2013).

Russia’s Exports to Zimbabwe

The major share of Russian exports to Zimbabwe in 2014 (and in 2013) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 78.74% of Russia’s total exports to Zimbabwe (18.78% in 2013);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 19.84% of Russia’s total exports to Zimbabwe (0.00% in 2013);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.08% of Russia’s total exports to Zimbabwe (22.44% in 2013);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 0.34% of Russia’s total exports to Zimbabwe (58.76% in 2013).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Zimbabwe in 2014 over 2013 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $6,316,259;
  • Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts and plans (HS code 49) - an increase of $1,504,900;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $305,959;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $67,323.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Zimbabwe in 2014 over 2013 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $2,691,240;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $767,765;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $247,466.

Russia’s Imports from Zimbabwe

The major share of Russian imports from Zimbabwe in 2014 (and in 2013) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 98.86% of Russia’s total imports from Zimbabwe (97.90% in 2013);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 1.13% of Russia’s total imports from Zimbabwe (2.01% in 2013).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Zimbabwe in 2014 over 2013 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - an increase of $13,278,461;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $167,279;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - an increase of $150,913.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Zimbabwe in 2014 over 2013 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons (HS code 08) - a decrease of $311,824;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - a decrease of $194,250.
