Russia’s Trade with Ghana

In 2015, Russia’s trade with Ghana totaled $215,477,377, up 32.35% ($52,669,065) from 2014.

Russia’s exports to Ghana in 2015 totaled $134,932,705, up 124.55% ($74,842,186) from 2014.

Russia’s imports from Ghana in 2015 were $80,544,672, down 21.59% ($22,173,121) from 2014.

Russia’s trade balance with Ghana went from a deficit of $42,627,274 in 2014, to a surplus of $54,388,033 in 2015.

Ghana was Russia’s 95th largest trading partner in 2015 (up from 104th in 2014), accounting for 0.0409% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0208% in 2014).

Ghana was Russia’s 91st largest export market in 2015 (up from 107th in 2014), accounting for 0.0393% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0121% in 2014).

Ghana was Russia’s 82nd largest supplier in 2015 (up from 83rd in 2014), accounting for 0.0441% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0359% in 2014).

Russia’s Exports to Ghana

The major share of Russian exports to Ghana in 2015 (and in 2014) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 63.83% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (21.59% in 2014);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 15.24% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (34.32% in 2014);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 14.87% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (24.09% in 2014);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 5.22% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (11.79% in 2014);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.81% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (4.05% in 2014);

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Ghana in 2015 over 2014 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $73,528,059;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $5,629,393;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $1,303,092.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Ghana in 2015 over 2014 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $2,439,069;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $1,496,421;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $927,653;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $679,792.
