Russia’s Trade with Malaysia

In 2015, Russia’s trade with Malaysia was $1,950,838,624, down 40.83% ($1,346,082,186) from 2014.

Russia’s exports to Malaysia in 2015 were $635,653,087, down 65.42% ($1,202,371,183) from 2014.

Russia’s imports from Malaysia in 2015 were $1,315,185,537, down 9.85% ($143,711,003) from 2014.

Russia’s trade balance with Malaysia went from a surplus of $379,127,730 in 2014, to a deficit of $679,532,450 in 2015.

Malaysia was Russia’s 44th largest trading partner in 2015 (down from 40th in 2014), accounting for 0.3707% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.4211% in 2014).

Malaysia was Russia’s 58th largest export market in 2015 (down from 37th in 2014), accounting for 0.1850% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.3699% in 2014).

Malaysia was Russia’s 30th largest supplier in 2015 (up from 34th in 2014), accounting for 0.7199% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.5101% in 2014).

Russia’s Exports to Malaysia

The major share of Russian exports to Malaysia in 2015 (and in 2014) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 51.94% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (84.01% in 2014);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 33.16% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (9.21% in 2014);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 6.77% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (2.82% in 2014);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 3.14% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (1.63% in 2014);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 2.98% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (0.40% in 2014);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.86% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (0.89% in 2014).

  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - an increase of $7,111,267;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $3,211,836;
  • Pulp of wood or of other fibrous cellulosic material; waste and scrap of paper or paperboard (HS code 47) - an increase of $2,582,806.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Malaysia in 2015 over 2014 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $1,214,805,034;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $12,816,828;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $12,426,957;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $5,441,191;

Russia’s Imports from Malaysia

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 17.33% of Russia’s total imports from Malaysia (16.53% in 2014);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 14.47% of Russia’s total imports from Malaysia (15.84% in 2014);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.13% of Russia’s total imports from Malaysia (1.01% in 2014);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 0.96% of Russia’s total imports from Malaysia (1.56% in 2014).
