Russia’s Trade with Nigeria

In 2015, Russia’s trade with Nigeria was $307,634,928, down 16.44% ($60,508,324) from 2014.

Russia’s exports to Nigeria in 2015 were $284,961,816, down 18.96% ($66,655,247) from 2014.

Russia’s imports from Nigeria in 2015 totaled $22,673,112, up 37.20% ($6,146,923) from 2014.

Russia’s trade surplus with Nigeria in 2015 was $262,288,704, a 21.73% decrease ($72,802,170) over 2014.

Nigeria was Russia’s 86th largest trading partner in 2015 (up from 90th in 2014), accounting for 0.0585% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0470% in 2014).

Nigeria was Russia’s 73rd largest export market in 2015 (up from 76th in 2014), accounting for 0.0829% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0708% in 2014).

Nigeria was Russia’s 102nd largest supplier in 2015 (up from 107th in 2014), accounting for 0.0124% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0058% in 2014).

Russia’s Exports to Nigeria

The major share of Russian exports to Nigeria in 2015 (and in 2014) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 64.20% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (58.75% in 2014);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 13.84% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (22.43% in 2014);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 10.98% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (6.61% in 2014);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 5.02% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (8.38% in 2014);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 4.98% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (3.22% in 2014).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Nigeria in 2015 over 2014 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $8,044,956;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $3,574,302;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $1,714,501;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $1,301,150.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Nigeria in 2015 over 2014 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $41,477,988;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $15,071,455;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $13,742,137;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - a decrease of $9,828,059.

Russia’s Imports from Nigeria

The major share of Russian imports from Nigeria in 2015 (and in 2014) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 95.78% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (95.92% in 2014);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.11% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (3.90% in 2014).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Nigeria in 2015 over 2014 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - an increase of $5,232,109;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - an increase of $492,647;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $353,486;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - an increase of $132,672.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Nigeria in 2015 over 2014 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Soap, organic surface-active agents, washing preparations, lubricating preparations, artificial waxes, prepared waxes, polishing or scouring preparations, candles and similar articles, modeling pastes, "dental waxes" and dental preparations with a basis of plaster (HS code 34) - a decrease of $97,192.
