Russia's Trade with Costa Rica

In the 1st quarter of 2016, Russia's trade with Costa Rica was $24,613,405, down 8.05% ($2,154,830) from the 1st quarter of 2015.

Russia's exports to Costa Rica in the 1st quarter of 2016 totaled $10,067,125, up 81.71% ($4,526,936) from the 1st quarter of 2015.

Russia's imports from Costa Rica in the 1st quarter of 2016 were $14,546,280, down 31.48% ($6,681,766) from the 1st quarter of 2015.

Russia's trade deficit with Costa Rica in the 1st quarter of 2016 was $4,479,155, a 71.45% decrease ($11,208,702) over the 1st quarter of 2015.

Costa Rica was Russia's 108th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2016 (just as in the 1st quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.025% of Russia's total trade (up from 0.020% in the 1st quarter of 2015).

Costa Rica was Russia's 109th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2016 (up from 120th in the 1st quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.016% of Russia's total exports (up from 0.006% in the 1st quarter of 2015).

Costa Rica was Russia's 87th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2016 (down from 80th in the 1st quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.041% of Russia's total imports (down from 0.051% in the 1st quarter of 2015).

Russia's Exports to Costa Rica

The major share of Russian exports to Costa Rica in the 1st quarter of 2016 (and in the 1st quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 95.22% of Russia's total exports to Costa Rica (49.32% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.81% of Russia's total exports to Costa Rica (0.81% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 1.05% of Russia's total exports to Costa Rica (18.40% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 0.00% of Russia's total exports to Costa Rica (30.58% in the 1st quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia's exports to Costa Rica in the 1st quarter of 2016 over the 1st quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $6,836,340;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $283,028;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $64,431;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - an increase of $58,758;
  • Tanning or dyeing extracts; dyes, pigments, paints, varnishes, putty and mastics (HS code 32) - an increase of $30,400.

The largest declines in Russia's exports to Costa Rica in the 1st quarter of 2016 over the 1st quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $1,694,125;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $913,415;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $60,405.

Russia's Imports from Costa Rica

The major share of Russian imports from Costa Rica in the 1st quarter of 2016 (and in the 1st quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 70.42% of Russia's total imports from Costa Rica (45.00% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 25.81% of Russia's total imports from Costa Rica (53.80% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 2.67% of Russia's total imports from Costa Rica (0.82% in the 1st quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia's imports from Costa Rica in the 1st quarter of 2016 over the 1st quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:
