Russia's Trade with Kenya

In the 1st quarter of 2016, Russia's trade with Kenya was $67,139,360, down 12.59% ($9,667,572) from the 1st quarter of 2015.

Russia's exports to Kenya in the 1st quarter of 2016 were $25,719,352, down 19.48% ($6,222,586) from the 1st quarter of 2015.

Russia's imports from Kenya in the 1st quarter of 2016 were $41,420,008, down 7.68% ($3,444,986) from the 1st quarter of 2015.

Russia's trade deficit with Kenya in the 1st quarter of 2016 was $15,700,656, a 21.49% increase ($2,777,600) over the 1st quarter of 2015.

Kenya was Russia's 84th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2016 (just as in the 1st quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0690% of Russia's total trade (up from 0.0581% in the 1st quarter of 2015).

Kenya was Russia's 93th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2016 (down from 89th in the 1st quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0419% of Russia's total exports (up from 0.0354% in the 1st quarter of 2015).

Kenya was Russia's 64th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2016 (just as in the 1st quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.1153% of Russia's total imports (up from 0.1067% in the 1st quarter of 2015).

The major share of Russian exports to Kenya in the 1st quarter of 2016 (and in the 1st quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 39.65% of Russia's total exports to Kenya (33.46% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 34.12% of Russia's total exports to Kenya (3.74% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 13.13% of Russia's total exports to Kenya (53.35% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 9.35% of Russia's total exports to Kenya (8.54% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 3.69% of Russia's total exports to Kenya (0.70% in the 1st quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia's exports to Kenya in the 1st quarter of 2016 over the 1st quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $7,317,138;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $833,337;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $547,877;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $413,724;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $136,007.

The largest declines in Russia's exports to Kenya in the 1st quarter of 2016 over the 1st quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $13,647,989;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - a decrease of $1,034,430;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $432,976;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $107,786;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $89,806.

  • Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons (HS code 08) - an increase of $464,946.
