Russia's Trade with Nigeria

In the 1st quarter of 2016, Russia's trade with Nigeria was $44,479,143, down 24.99% ($14,817,032) from the 1st quarter of 2015.

Russia's exports to Nigeria in the 1st quarter of 2016 were $43,547,897, down 22.53% ($12,668,288) from the 1st quarter of 2015.

Russia's imports from Nigeria in the 1st quarter of 2016 were $931,246, down 69.76% ($2,148,744) from the 1st quarter of 2015.

Russia's trade surplus with Nigeria in the 1st quarter of 2016 was $42,616,651, a 19.80% decrease ($10,519,544) over the 1st quarter of 2015.

Nigeria was Russia's 95th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2016 (down from 88th in the 1st quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0457% of Russia's total trade (up from 0.0448% in the 1st quarter of 2015).

Nigeria was Russia's 80th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2016 (down from 75th in the 1st quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0710% of Russia's total exports (up from 0.0623% in the 1st quarter of 2015).

Nigeria was Russia's 124th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2016 (down from 106th in the 1st quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0026% of Russia's total imports (down from 0.0073% in the 1st quarter of 2015).

Russia's Exports to Nigeria

The major share of Russian exports to Nigeria in the 1st quarter of 2016 (and in the 1st quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 83.76% of Russia's total exports to Nigeria (66.26% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 6.95% of Russia's total exports to Nigeria (21.44% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 5.93% of Russia's total exports to Nigeria (3.45% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 2.62% of Russia's total exports to Nigeria (4.32% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.61% of Russia's total exports to Nigeria (1.65% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 0.09% of Russia's total exports to Nigeria (2.89% in the 1st quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia's exports to Nigeria in the 1st quarter of 2016 over the 1st quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $10,738,943;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $453,071;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $250,729;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $157,139.

The largest declines in Russia's exports to Nigeria in the 1st quarter of 2016 over the 1st quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - a decrease of $11,426,185;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $9,025,683;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $1,496,491;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $949,956;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $807,192;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $763,699.

Russia's Imports from Nigeria

The major share of Russian imports from Nigeria in the 1st quarter of 2016 (and in the 1st quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 81.22% of Russia's total imports from Nigeria (82.47% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 9.20% of Russia's total imports from Nigeria (0.00% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.83% of Russia's total imports from Nigeria (17.36% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 3.20% of Russia's total imports from Nigeria (0.00% in the 1st quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia's imports from Nigeria in the 1st quarter of 2016 over the 1st quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $4,135.

The largest declines in Russia's imports from Nigeria in the 1st quarter of 2016 over the 1st quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - a decrease of $1,820,954;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $482,546;
  • Lac; gums, resins and other vegetable saps and extracts (HS code 13) - a decrease of $4,829;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - a decrease of $4,562.
