Russia's Trade with Mongolia

In the 1st quarter of 2016, Russia's trade with Mongolia was $183,566,208, down 27.41% ($69,305,650) from the 1st quarter of 2015.

Russia's exports to Mongolia in the 1st quarter of 2016 were $176,219,865, down 27.62% ($67,259,117) from the 1st quarter of 2015.

Russia's imports from Mongolia in the 1st quarter of 2016 were $7,346,343, down 21.79% ($2,046,533) from the 1st quarter of 2015.

Russia's trade surplus with Mongolia in the 1st quarter of 2016 was $168,873,522, a 27.86% decrease ($65,212,584) over the 1st quarter of 2015.

Mongolia was Russia's 59th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2016 (down from 57th in the 1st quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.1886% of Russia's total trade (down from 0.1911% in the 1st quarter of 2015).

Mongolia was Russia's 51st largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2016 (down from 46th in the 1st quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.2872% of Russia's total exports (up from 0.2697% in the 1st quarter of 2015).

Mongolia was Russia's 95th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2016 (down from 94th in the 1st quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0204% of Russia's total imports (down from 0.0223% in the 1st quarter of 2015).

Russia's Exports to Mongolia

The major share of Russian exports to Mongolia in the 1st quarter of 2016 (and in the 1st quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 63.75% of Russia's total exports to Mongolia (76.22% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 20.29% of Russia's total exports to Mongolia (10.76% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 6.12% of Russia's total exports to Mongolia (3.33% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.40% of Russia's total exports to Mongolia (4.18% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.02% of Russia's total exports to Mongolia (2.62% in the 1st quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia's exports to Mongolia in the 1st quarter of 2016 over the 1st quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $11,771,782;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $3,886,130;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - an increase of $1,937,067;
  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - an increase of $1,245,522;
  • Miscellaneous manufactured articles (HS code 96) - an increase of $1,132,143;
  • Soap, organic surface-active agents, washing preparations, lubricating preparations, artificial waxes, prepared waxes, polishing or scouring preparations, candles and similar articles, modeling pastes, "dental waxes" and dental preparations with a basis of plaster (HS code 34) - an increase of $813,947.

The largest declines in Russia's exports to Mongolia in the 1st quarter of 2016 over the 1st quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $73,366,744;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - a decrease of $2,577,256;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $1,472,668;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $1,281,229;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - a decrease of $1,202,791;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - a decrease of $1,149,075;
  • Articles of stone, plaster, cement, asbestos, mica or similar materials (HS code 68) - a decrease of $1,107,753;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $1,047,631;
  • Residues and waste from the food industries; prepared animal feed (HS code 23) - a decrease of $1,002,072;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $687,546;
  • Preparations of cereals, flour, starch or milk; bakers’ wares (HS code 19) - a decrease of $594,282;
  • Miscellaneous edible preparations (HS code 21) - a decrease of $571,076.

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 23.85% of Russia's total imports from Mongolia (18.36% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 1.20% of Russia's total imports from Mongolia (1.55% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.00% of Russia's total imports from Mongolia (6.30% in the 1st quarter of 2015).
