Russia's Trade with North Korea

In the 1st quarter of 2016, Russia's trade with North Korea was $17,122,498, down 6.11% ($1,114,779) from the 1st quarter of 2015.

Russia's exports to North Korea in the 1st quarter of 2016 were $13,398,855, down 24.15% ($4,265,822) from the 1st quarter of 2015.

Russia's imports from North Korea in the 1st quarter of 2016 totaled $3,723,643, up 550.30% ($3,151,043) from the 1st quarter of 2015.

Russia's trade surplus with North Korea in the 1st quarter of 2016 was $9,675,212, a 43.39% decrease ($7,416,865) over the 1st quarter of 2015.

North Korea was Russia's 114th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2016 (up from 115th in the 1st quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0176% of Russia's total trade (up from 0.0138% in the 1st quarter of 2015).

North Korea was Russia's 100th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2016 (just as in the 1st quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0218% of Russia's total exports (up from 0.0196% in the 1st quarter of 2015).

North Korea was Russia's 100th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2016 (up from 133rd in the 1st quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0104% of Russia's total imports (up from 0.0014% in the 1st quarter of 2015).

The major share of Russian exports to North Korea in the 1st quarter of 2016 (and in the 1st quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 10.20% of Russia's total exports to North Korea (5.48% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.17% of Russia's total exports to North Korea (0.33% in the 1st quarter of 2015);

  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $53,945.

The largest declines in Russia's exports to North Korea in the 1st quarter of 2016 over the 1st quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $4,305,524;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $478,220;

  • Sugars and sugar confectionery (HS code 17) - a decrease of $61,162.
