Russia's Trade with Brazil

In the 2nd quarter of 2016, Russia's trade with Brazil was $1,074,685,349, down 21.84% ($300,245,246) from the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Russia's exports to Brazil in the 2nd quarter of 2016 were $435,166,115, down 31.33% ($198,583,217) from the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Russia's imports from Brazil in the 2nd quarter of 2016 were $639,519,234, down 13.72% ($101,662,029) from the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Russia's trade deficit with Brazil in the 2nd quarter of 2016 was $204,353,119, a 90.22% increase ($96,921,188) over the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Brazil was Russia's 23rd largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (down from 21st in the 2nd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.9874% of Russia's total trade (down from 1.0085% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

Brazil was Russia's 32nd largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (down from 26th in the 2nd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.6549% of Russia's total exports (down from 0.6923% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

Brazil was Russia's 17th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (down from 14th in the 2nd quarter of 2015), accounting for 1.5086% of Russia's total imports (down from 1.6548% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

Russia's Exports to Brazil

The major share of Russian exports to Brazil in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 87.07% of Russia's total exports to Brazil (82.50% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 7.76% of Russia's total exports to Brazil (10.89% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.84% of Russia's total exports to Brazil (0.34% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.64% of Russia's total exports to Brazil (5.82% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.56% of Russia's total exports to Brazil (0.39% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia's exports to Brazil in the 2nd quarter of 2016 over the 2nd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $5,455,414;
  • Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts and plans (HS code 49) - an increase of $4,982,902;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $2,565,268.

The largest declines in Russia's exports to Brazil in the 2nd quarter of 2016 over the 2nd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $127,507,609;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $27,420,950;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $23,633,726;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $17,850,978;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $11,597,293;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - a decrease of $1,585,531.

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.84% of Russia's total imports from Brazil (4.16% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.25% of Russia's total imports from Brazil (4.26% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
