Russia's Trade with South Africa

In the 2nd quarter of 2016, Russia's trade with South Africa totaled $214,060,593, up 7.47% ($14,882,685) from the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Russia's exports to South Africa in the 2nd quarter of 2016 totaled $66,274,199, up 60.44% ($24,965,206) from the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Russia's imports from South Africa in the 2nd quarter of 2016 were $147,786,394, down 6.39% ($10,082,521) from the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Russia's trade deficit with South Africa in the 2nd quarter of 2016 was $81,512,195, a 30.07% decrease ($35,047,727) over the 2nd quarter of 2015.

South Africa was Russia's 63rd largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (up from 68th in the 2nd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.1967% of Russia's total trade (up from 0.1461% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

South Africa was Russia's 71st largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (up from 87th in the 2nd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0997% of Russia's total exports (up from 0.0451% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

South Africa was Russia's 50th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (down from 46th in the 2nd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.3486% of Russia's total imports (down from 0.3525% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

Russia's Exports to South Africa

The major share of Russian exports to South Africa in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 74.74% of Russia's total exports to South Africa (70.81% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 8.12% of Russia's total exports to South Africa (8.09% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 6.52% of Russia's total exports to South Africa (6.06% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.39% of Russia's total exports to South Africa (2.79% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 3.20% of Russia's total exports to South Africa (5.10% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $991,061;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $918,851;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $667,153;
  • Pulp of wood or of other fibrous cellulosic material; waste and scrap of paper or paperboard (HS code 47) - an increase of $603,434;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $534,754;

The largest declines in Russia's exports to South Africa in the 2nd quarter of 2016 over the 2nd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:
