Russia's Trade with the US

In the 2nd quarter of 2016, Russia's trade with the US was $4,306,221,524, down 25.97% ($1,510,617,575) from the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Russia's exports to the US in the 2nd quarter of 2016 were $2,227,452,442, down 13.82% ($357,313,653) from the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Russia's imports from the US in the 2nd quarter of 2016 were $2,078,769,082, down 35.68% ($1,153,303,922) from the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Russia's trade with the US went from a deficit of $647,306,909 in the 2nd quarter of 2015, to a surplus of $148,683,360 in the 2nd quarter of 2016.

The US was Russia's 6th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2015), accounting for 3.9565% of Russia's total trade (down from 4.2666% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

The US was Russia's 8th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (up from 11th in the 2nd quarter of 2015), accounting for 3.3522% of Russia's total exports (up from 2.8234% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

The US was Russia's 4th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (down from 3rd in the 2nd quarter of 2015), accounting for 4.9038% of Russia's total imports (down from 7.2163% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

Russia's Exports to the US

The major share of Russian exports to the US in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 33.62% of Russia's total exports to the US (31.72% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 32.67% of Russia's total exports to the US (25.61% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 17.52% of Russia's total exports to the US (29.18% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 8.04% of Russia's total exports to the US (6.04% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Precious metals and stones (HS code 71) - 5.37% of Russia's total exports to the US (2.62% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.55% of Russia's total exports to the US (1.45% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia's exports to the US in the 2nd quarter of 2016 over the 2nd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $136,790,026;
  • Natural or cultured pearls, precious or semi-precious stones,precious metals, metals clad with precious metal and articles thereof; imitation jewelry; coin (HS code 71) - an increase of $51,977,163;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $33,823,579.

The largest declines in Russia's exports to the US in the 2nd quarter of 2016 over the 2nd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $225,886,195;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $132,530,102;

  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $45,168,985;
