Russia’s Trade with Bangladesh

In the 2nd quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Bangladesh was $213,640,569, down 14.82% ($37,167,178) from the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Bangladesh in the 2nd quarter of 2016 were $54,641,096, down 54.28% ($64,874,861) from the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Bangladesh in the 2nd quarter of 2016 totaled $158,999,473, up 21.10% ($27,707,683) from the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade deficit with Bangladesh in the 2nd quarter of 2016 was $104,358,377, a 786.21% increase ($92,582,544) over the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Bangladesh was Russia’s 64th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (down from 58th in the 2nd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.1963% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.1840% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

Bangladesh was Russia’s 75th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (down from 65th in the 2nd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0822% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.1306% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

Bangladesh was Russia’s 45th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (up from 50th in the 2nd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.3751% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.2931% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Bangladesh

The major share of Russian exports to Bangladesh in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 55.56% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (0.34% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 23.30% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (13.25% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 13.74% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (6.53% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 3.64% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (1.40% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 0.59% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (6.92% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 0.40% of Russia’s total exports to Bangladesh (12.80% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Bangladesh in the 2nd quarter of 2016 over the 2nd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $28,544,283;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $9,545,453;
  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - an increase of $2,488,146;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $1,602,437;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $1,598,844;
  • Raw hides and skins (other than furskins) and leather (HS code 41) - an increase of $941,695;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $774,052;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $338,276;
  • Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal; parts thereof of base metal (HS code 82) - an increase of $257,430;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $201,004.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Bangladesh in the 2nd quarter of 2016 over the 2nd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $15,343,294;
  • Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts and plans (HS code 49) - a decrease of $14,961,432;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $8,234,791;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $2,523,248;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $457,423;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - a decrease of $245,840.

Russia’s Imports from Bangladesh

The major share of Russian imports from Bangladesh in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 95.78% of Russia’s total imports from Bangladesh (91.83% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 3.46% of Russia’s total imports from Bangladesh (7.70% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Bangladesh in the 2nd quarter of 2016 over the 2nd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, knitted or crocheted (HS code 61) - an increase of $20,432,172;
  • Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, not knitted or crocheted (HS code 62) - an increase of $15,640,278;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - an increase of $1,960,536;
  • Footwear, gaiters and the like; parts of such articles (HS code 64) - an increase of $642,359.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Bangladesh in the 2nd quarter of 2016 over the 2nd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - a decrease of $5,131,705;
  • Other made up textile articles; sets; worn clothing and worn textile articles; rags (HS code 63) - a decrease of $3,394,309;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - a decrease of $1,656,590;
  • Other vegetable textile fibers; paper yarn and woven fabric of paper yarn (HS code 53) - a decrease of $1,270,706.
