Russia’s Trade with Malaysia

In the 2nd quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Malaysia totaled $513,733,166, up 1.60% ($8,071,156) from the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Malaysia in the 2nd quarter of 2016 totaled $251,295,850, up 0.83% ($2,067,381) from the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Malaysia in the 2nd quarter of 2016 totaled $262,437,316, up 2.34% ($6,003,775) from the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade deficit with Malaysia in the 2nd quarter of 2016 was $11,141,466, a 54.63% increase ($3,936,394) over the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Malaysia was Russia’s 39th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (up from 41st in the 2nd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.4720% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.3709% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

Malaysia was Russia’s 43rd largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (up from 48th in the 2nd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.3782% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.2722% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

Malaysia was Russia’s 31st largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (up from 33rd in the 2nd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.6191% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.5725% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Malaysia

The major share of Russian exports to Malaysia in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 68.84% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (55.80% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 12.13% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (1.64% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 10.75% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (37.96% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 5.04% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (0.38% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);

  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $12,723,636;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $9,189,249;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $2,500,694.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Malaysia in the 2nd quarter of 2016 over the 2nd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $66,844,189;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $1,904,093;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $1,253,684;
  • Pulp of wood or of other fibrous cellulosic material; waste and scrap of paper or paperboard (HS code 47) - a decrease of $1,123,396.
