Russia’s Trade with Saudi Arabia

In the 2nd quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Saudi Arabia was $131,426,005, down 32.84% ($64,259,601) from the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Saudi Arabia in the 2nd quarter of 2016 were $93,879,048, down 40.63% ($64,241,773) from the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Saudi Arabia in the 2nd quarter of 2016 were $37,546,957, down 0.05% ($17,828) from the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade surplus with Saudi Arabia in the 2nd quarter of 2016 was $56,332,091, a 53.27% decrease ($64,223,945) over the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Saudi Arabia was Russia’s 72nd largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (down from 69th in the 2nd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.1208% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.1435% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

Saudi Arabia was Russia’s 64th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (down from 60th in the 2nd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.1413% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.1727% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

Saudi Arabia was Russia’s 72nd largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (down from 70th in the 2nd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0886% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0839% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Saudi Arabia

The major share of Russian exports to Saudi Arabia in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 61.93% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (66.48% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 14.38% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (12.13% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 14.24% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (12.57% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 6.93% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (5.81% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 1.03% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (1.10% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.93% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (1.30% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Saudi Arabia in the 2nd quarter of 2016 over the 2nd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $8,122,889;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $5,249,861;
  • Pulp of wood or of other fibrous cellulosic material; waste and scrap of paper or paperboard (HS code 47) - an increase of $580,447;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $401,928;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $380,863.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Saudi Arabia in the 2nd quarter of 2016 over the 2nd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $52,398,401;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $13,712,267;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - a decrease of $6,835,108;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $1,714,519;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $1,557,069;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $986,844;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $770,122;
  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - a decrease of $456,922;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $433,607;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $298,733;
  • Man-made filaments (HS code 54) - a decrease of $295,705.

Russia’s Imports from Saudi Arabia

The major share of Russian imports from Saudi Arabia in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 96.62% of Russia’s total imports from Saudi Arabia (90.94% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 2.33% of Russia’s total imports from Saudi Arabia (4.05% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.46% of Russia’s total imports from Saudi Arabia (1.47% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
