Russia’s Trade with Sri Lanka

In the 2nd quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Sri Lanka was $86,990,017, down 10.77% ($10,494,880) from the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Sri Lanka in the 2nd quarter of 2016 were $18,731,077, down 36.26% ($10,653,594) from the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Sri Lanka in the 2nd quarter of 2016 totaled $68,258,940, up 0.23% ($158,714) from the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade deficit with Sri Lanka in the 2nd quarter of 2016 was $49,527,863, a 27.93% increase ($10,812,308) over the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Sri Lanka was Russia’s 80th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0799% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0715% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

Sri Lanka was Russia’s 95th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (up from 96th in the 2nd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0282% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0321% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

Sri Lanka was Russia’s 59th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (down from 58th in the 2nd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.1610% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.1520% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Sri Lanka

The major share of Russian exports to Sri Lanka in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 57.81% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (60.29% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 20.77% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (26.57% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 18.26% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (7.70% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 2.22% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (4.74% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Sri Lanka in the 2nd quarter of 2016 over the 2nd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $949,834;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $561,130;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $173,040;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $151,209.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Sri Lanka in the 2nd quarter of 2016 over the 2nd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $7,482,830;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $2,924,243;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $1,154,827;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $994,464.

Russia’s Imports from Sri Lanka

The major share of Russian imports from Sri Lanka in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 58.01% of Russia’s total imports from Sri Lanka (59.60% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 33.77% of Russia’s total imports from Sri Lanka (34.17% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 6.40% of Russia’s total imports from Sri Lanka (4.18% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.36% of Russia’s total imports from Sri Lanka (1.65% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Sri Lanka in the 2nd quarter of 2016 over the 2nd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - a decrease of $1,139,761;
  • Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, knitted or crocheted (HS code 61) - a decrease of $428,198;
