Russia’s Trade with Chile

In the 3rd quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Chile was $160,932,539, down 30.85% ($71,786,846) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Chile in the 3rd quarter of 2016 were $11,671,707, down 18.29% ($2,613,467) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Chile in the 3rd quarter of 2016 were $149,260,832, down 31.67% ($69,173,379) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade deficit with Chile in the 3rd quarter of 2016 was $137,589,125, a 32.60% decrease ($66,559,912) over the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Chile was Russia’s 71st largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (down from 66th in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.1320% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.1834% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Chile was Russia’s 114th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (down from 111th in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0162% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0180% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Chile was Russia’s 46th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (down from 38th in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.2987% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.4609% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Chile

The major share of Russian exports to Chile in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 35.41% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (49.18% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 32.89% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (37.96% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 15.21% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (6.44% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.55% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (1.90% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 4.25% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (0.93% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 4.18% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (2.29% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.41% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (0.67% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Chile in the 3rd quarter of 2016 over the 3rd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $695,271;
  • Man-made filaments (HS code 54) - an increase of $351,207;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - an increase of $186,158;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $160,699;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $135,971;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $133,655;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $131,015;
  • Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal; parts thereof of base metal (HS code 82) - an increase of $119,525;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $111,749;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $98,985;
  • Essential oils and resinoids; perfumery, cosmetic or toilet preparations (HS code 33) - an increase of $87,136;
  • Tanning or dyeing extracts; dyes, pigments, paints, varnishes, putty and mastics (HS code 32) - an increase of $66,146;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $54,711;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - an increase of $51,777;
  • Preparations of vegetables, fruit, nuts or other parts of plants (HS code 20) - an increase of $43,165;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $40,000.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Chile in the 3rd quarter of 2016 over the 3rd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $2,896,952;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $1,793,225;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $331,468;
  • Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons (HS code 08) - a decrease of $137,438.

The major share of Russian imports from Chile in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 90.40% of Russia’s total imports from Chile (95.03% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 7.54% of Russia’s total imports from Chile (1.86% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 1.53% of Russia’s total imports from Chile (2.48% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Chile in the 3rd quarter of 2016 over the 3rd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $6,966,234;
  • Preparations of vegetables, fruit, nuts or other parts of plants (HS code 20) - an increase of $4,694,504;
  • Preparations of meat, of fish or of crustaceans, molluscs or other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 16) - an increase of $1,508,717;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - an increase of $828,123.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Chile in the 3rd quarter of 2016 over the 3rd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - a decrease of $31,922,588;
  • Meat and edible meat offal (HS code 02) - a decrease of $29,129,676;
  • Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons (HS code 08) - a decrease of $15,002,737;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - a decrease of $3,131,409;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - a decrease of $2,962,003;
