Russia’s Trade with Costa Rica

In the 3rd quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Costa Rica was $17,427,508, down 7.89% ($1,493,752) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Costa Rica in the 3rd quarter of 2016 were $4,377,241, down 31.00% ($1,966,189) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Costa Rica in the 3rd quarter of 2016 totaled $13,050,267, up 3.76% ($472,437) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade deficit with Costa Rica in the 3rd quarter of 2016 was $8,673,026, a 39.12% increase ($2,438,626) over the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Costa Rica was Russia’s 118th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (up from 121st in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0143% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0149% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Costa Rica was Russia’s 129th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (down from 125th in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0061% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0080% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Costa Rica was Russia’s 91st largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (up from 92nd in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0261% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0265% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Costa Rica

The major share of Russian exports to Costa Rica in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 54.42% of Russia’s total exports to Costa Rica (54.92% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 31.73% of Russia’s total exports to Costa Rica (0.01% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 12.20% of Russia’s total exports to Costa Rica (42.48% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.07% of Russia’s total exports to Costa Rica (1.62% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Costa Rica in the 3rd quarter of 2016 over the 3rd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $974,701;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $413,846;
  • Tanning or dyeing extracts; dyes, pigments, paints, varnishes, putty and mastics (HS code 32) - an increase of $95,400;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $17,332;
  • Articles of stone, plaster, cement, asbestos, mica or similar materials (HS code 68) - an increase of $14,583.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Costa Rica in the 3rd quarter of 2016 over the 3rd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $2,160,384;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $1,130,995;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $102,494;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - a decrease of $66,212;
  • Other made up textile articles; sets; worn clothing and worn textile articles; rags (HS code 63) - a decrease of $30,160;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $21,554.

Russia’s Imports from Costa Rica

The major share of Russian imports from Costa Rica in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 55.81% of Russia’s total imports from Costa Rica (67.24% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 40.14% of Russia’s total imports from Costa Rica (29.47% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 2.37% of Russia’s total imports from Costa Rica (1.58% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);

  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $274,755;
  • Live trees and other plants; bulbs, roots and the like; cut flowers and ornamental foliage (HS code 06) - a decrease of $56,183.
