Russia’s Trade with Finland

In the 3rd quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Finland was $2,197,699,807, down 8.84% ($213,116,792) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Finland in the 3rd quarter of 2016 were $1,550,656,426, down 6.02% ($99,353,307) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Finland in the 3rd quarter of 2016 were $647,043,381, down 14.95% ($113,763,485) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade surplus with Finland in the 3rd quarter of 2016 was $903,613,045, a 1.62% increase ($14,410,178) over the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Finland was Russia’s 15th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (just as in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 1.8025% of Russia’s total trade (down from 1.8996% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Finland was Russia’s 14th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (just as in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 2.1553% of Russia’s total exports (up from 2.0748% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Finland was Russia’s 18th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (down from 17th in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 1.2947% of Russia’s total imports (down from 1.6055% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Finland

The major share of Russian exports to Finland in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 70.42% of Russia’s total exports to Finland (71.86% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes codes 28-40) - 11.88% of Russia’s total exports to Finland (16.07% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 7.34% of Russia’s total exports to Finland (6.23% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 6.60% of Russia’s total exports to Finland (2.66% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.11% of Russia’s total exports to Finland (1.95% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Finland in the 3rd quarter of 2016 over the 3rd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $10,125,148;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - an increase of $8,378,380.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Finland in the 3rd quarter of 2016 over the 3rd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $103,689,658;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $58,846,346;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $11,882,583;
