Russia’s Trade with France

In the 3rd quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with France totaled $3,823,956,505, up 33.16% ($952,256,850) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to France in the 3rd quarter of 2016 were $1,163,568,501, down 18.17% ($258,298,489) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from France in the 3rd quarter of 2016 totaled $2,660,388,004, up 83.50% ($1,210,555,339) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade deficit with France in the 3rd quarter of 2016 was $1,496,819,503, a 5,252.35% increase ($1,468,853,828) over the 3rd quarter of 2015.

France was Russia’s 10th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (up from 13th in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 3.1364% of Russia’s total trade (up from 2.2627% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

France was Russia’s 18th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (down from 16th in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 1.6173% of Russia’s total exports (down from 1.7879% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

France was Russia’s 4th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (up from 8th in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 5.3231% of Russia’s total imports (up from 3.0594% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to France

The major share of Russian exports to France in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 82.68% of Russia’s total exports to France (81.55% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 5.19% of Russia’s total exports to France (4.30% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.06% of Russia’s total exports to France (5.27% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 2.83% of Russia’s total exports to France (5.11% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.77% of Russia’s total exports to France (1.33% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to France in the 3rd quarter of 2016 over the 3rd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - an increase of $4,638,565;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $4,626,180;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $4,199,447.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to France in the 3rd quarter of 2016 over the 3rd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $202,532,290;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $47,301,878;
  • Nickel and articles thereof (HS code 75) - a decrease of $41,970,036;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $5,747,557.
