Russia’s Trade with Mongolia

In the 3rd quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Mongolia was $237,442,151, down 4.94% ($12,351,436) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Mongolia in the 3rd quarter of 2016 were $228,024,209, down 4.42% ($10,534,270) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Mongolia in the 3rd quarter of 2016 were $9,417,942, down 16.17% ($1,817,166) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade surplus with Mongolia in the 3rd quarter of 2016 was $218,606,267, a 3.83% decrease ($8,717,104) over the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Mongolia was Russia’s 63rd largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (up from 64th in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.1947% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.1968% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Mongolia was Russia’s 51st largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (down from 50th in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.3169% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.3000% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Mongolia was Russia’s 97th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (down from 96th in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0188% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0237% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Mongolia

The major share of Russian exports to Mongolia in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 60.28% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (68.10% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 15.85% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (11.81% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 9.43% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (7.55% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 7.39% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (6.18% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.28% of Russia’s total exports to Mongolia (2.97% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Mongolia in the 3rd quarter of 2016 over the 3rd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $3,920,765;
  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - an increase of $1,540,655;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $1,533,816;
  • Preparations of cereals, flour, starch or milk; bakers’ wares (HS code 19) - an increase of $946,452;
  • Sugars and sugar confectionery (HS code 17) - an increase of $824,047;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $718,985.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Mongolia in the 3rd quarter of 2016 over the 3rd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $24,859,175;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $3,715,749.
