Russia’s Trade with Nicaragua

In the 3rd quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Nicaragua totaled $17,379,881, up 517.19% ($14,563,909) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Nicaragua in the 3rd quarter of 2016 totaled $13,771,582, up 1,322.75% ($12,803,626) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Nicaragua in the 3rd quarter of 2016 totaled $3,608,299, up 95.25% ($1,760,283) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade with Nicaragua went from a deficit of $880,060 in the 3rd quarter of 2015, to a surplus of $10,163,283 in the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Nicaragua was Russia’s 119th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (up from 148th in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0143% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0022% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Nicaragua was Russia’s 110th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (up from 149th in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0191% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0012% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Nicaragua was Russia’s 109th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (up from 119th in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0072% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0039% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Nicaragua

The major share of Russian exports to Nicaragua in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 41.99% of Russia’s total exports to Nicaragua (0.00% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 29.56% of Russia’s total exports to Nicaragua (27.51% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 15.24% of Russia’s total exports to Nicaragua (13.92% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.34% of Russia’s total exports to Nicaragua (0.00% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);

  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - an increase of $851,565;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $407,458;
  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - an increase of $264,248;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $242,583;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $54,450.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Nicaragua in the 3rd quarter of 2016 over the 3rd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $173,012;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $135,202.

Russia’s Imports from Nicaragua

The major share of Russian imports from Nicaragua in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 99.29% of Russia’s total imports from Nicaragua (99.38% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Nicaragua in the 3rd quarter of 2016 over the 3rd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - an increase of $1,641,991;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - an increase of $201,088;
