Russian trade with Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2016

Russia’s Trade with Nigeria

In the 3rd quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Nigeria was $83,497,942, down 14.12% ($13,730,946) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2016 were $78,488,124, down 12.77% ($11,489,285) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2016 were $5,009,818, down 30.91% ($2,241,661) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade surplus with Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2016 was $73,478,306, a 11.18% decrease ($9,247,624) over the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Nigeria was Russia’s 83rd largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (down from 82nd in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0685% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0766% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Nigeria was Russia’s 72nd largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (just as in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.1091% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.1131% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Nigeria was Russia’s 105th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (down from 99th in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0100% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0153% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Nigeria

The major share of Russian exports to Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 79.88% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (68.85% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 13.29% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (8.05% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.67% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (4.60% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 2.64% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (11.10% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.00% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (7.14% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2016 over the 3rd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $3,190,791;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - an increase of $2,723,304;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $807,245;
  • Miscellaneous edible preparations (HS code 21) - an increase of $262,774.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2016 over the 3rd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $7,725,524;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $5,620,539;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $2,258,350;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $2,075,932;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $1,333,771.

Russia’s Imports from Nigeria

The major share of Russian imports from Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 88.39% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (99.15% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 6.38% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (0.78% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 4.01% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (0.00% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.12% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (0.00% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2016 over the 3rd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - an increase of $201,127;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $55,863.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Nigeria in the 3rd quarter of 2016 over the 3rd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - a decrease of $2,470,601;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - a decrease of $162,317;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - a decrease of $133,406.
