Russia’s Trade with South Korea

In the 3rd quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with South Korea totaled $4,532,422,541, up 3.32% ($145,631,977) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to South Korea in the 3rd quarter of 2016 were $2,952,466,631, down 4.22% ($130,157,666) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from South Korea in the 3rd quarter of 2016 totaled $1,579,955,910, up 21.15% ($275,789,643) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade surplus with South Korea in the 3rd quarter of 2016 was $1,372,510,721, a 22.83% decrease ($405,947,309) over the 3rd quarter of 2015.

South Korea was Russia’s 7th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (up from 9th in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 3.7175% of Russia’s total trade (up from 3.4565% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

South Korea was Russia’s 7th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (up from 8th in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 4.1038% of Russia’s total exports (up from 3.8763% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

South Korea was Russia’s 8th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (up from 9th in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 3.1613% of Russia’s total imports (up from 2.7520% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to South Korea

The major share of Russian exports to South Korea in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 75.38% of Russia’s total exports to South Korea (80.20% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 11.03% of Russia’s total exports to South Korea (8.56% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 6.86% of Russia’s total exports to South Korea (7.23% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.64% of Russia’s total exports to South Korea (1.80% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to South Korea in the 3rd quarter of 2016 over the 3rd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $261,275,462;
