Russia’s Trade with Costa Rica

In the 4th quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Costa Rica totaled $43,483,149, up 85.04% ($19,983,892) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Costa Rica in the 4th quarter of 2016 totaled $11,683,876, up 1,345.27% ($10,875,453) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Costa Rica in the 4th quarter of 2016 totaled $31,799,273, up 40.14% ($9,108,439) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade deficit with Costa Rica in the 4th quarter of 2016 was $20,115,397, a 8.08% decrease ($1,767,014) over the 4th quarter of 2015.

Costa Rica was Russia’s 103rd largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2016 (up from 117th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0319% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0180% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Costa Rica was Russia’s 112th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2016 (up from 154th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0139% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0010% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Costa Rica was Russia’s 78th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2016 (up from 81st in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0606% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0469% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Costa Rica

The major share of Russian exports to Costa Rica in the 4th quarter of 2016 (and in the 4th quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 63.90% of Russia’s total exports to Costa Rica (0.00% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 24.15% of Russia’s total exports to Costa Rica (41.45% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 9.88% of Russia’s total exports to Costa Rica (44.44% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 1.64% of Russia’s total exports to Costa Rica (0.00% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 0.26% of Russia’s total exports to Costa Rica (11.22% in the 4th quarter of 2015);

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $2,303,458;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $1,276,945;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $794,741;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - an increase of $173,241;
  • Tanning or dyeing extracts; dyes, pigments, paints, varnishes, putty and mastics (HS code 32) - an increase of $124,400;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $60,541.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Costa Rica in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $60,366.

Russia’s Imports from Costa Rica

The major share of Russian imports from Costa Rica in the 4th quarter of 2016 (and in the 4th quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 82.87% of Russia’s total imports from Costa Rica (82.71% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 15.57% of Russia’s total imports from Costa Rica (14.27% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 0.87% of Russia’s total imports from Costa Rica (2.30% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Costa Rica in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Preparations of vegetables, fruit, nuts or other parts of plants (HS code 20) - an increase of $137,080;
  • Miscellaneous articles of base metal (HS code 83) - an increase of $108,838.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Costa Rica in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Live trees and other plants; bulbs, roots and the like; cut flowers and ornamental foliage (HS code 06) - a decrease of $298,162;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $205,020;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $116,286.
