Russia’s Trade with Egypt

In the 4th quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Egypt totaled $1,441,412,067, up 1.55% ($21,956,037) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Egypt in the 4th quarter of 2016 totaled $1,395,472,197, up 1.64% ($22,450,247) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Egypt in the 4th quarter of 2016 were $45,939,870, down 1.06% ($494,210) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade surplus with Egypt in the 4th quarter of 2016 was $1,349,532,327, a 1.73% increase ($22,944,457) over the 4th quarter of 2015.

Egypt was Russia’s 21st largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2016 (down from 19th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 1.0578% of Russia’s total trade (down from 1.0855% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Egypt was Russia’s 18th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2016 (just as in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 1.6645% of Russia’s total exports (down from 1.6657% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Egypt was Russia’s 71st largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2016 (down from 66th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0876% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0961% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Egypt

The major share of Russian exports to Egypt in the 4th quarter of 2016 (and in the 4th quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 34.79% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (26.64% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 29.04% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (26.35% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 12.23% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (6.76% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 5.04% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (4.73% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 4.47% of Russia’s total exports to Egypt (5.91% in the 4th quarter of 2015);

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $66,458,902;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $56,306,072;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $47,891,101;
  • Copper and articles thereof (HS code 74) - an increase of $13,355,357;

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Egypt in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $23,983,410;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $18,083,671;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $7,257,528;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $6,189,622.
