Russia’s Trade with Germany

In the 4th quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Germany totaled $11,851,888,199, up 2.56% ($295,383,069) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Germany in the 4th quarter of 2016 totaled $6,360,197,970, up 5.42% ($326,726,964) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Germany in the 4th quarter of 2016 were $5,491,690,229, down 0.57% ($31,343,895) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade surplus with Germany in the 4th quarter of 2016 was $868,507,741, a 70.15% increase ($358,070,859) over the 4th quarter of 2015.

Germany was Russia’s 2nd largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2016 (just as in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 8.6974% of Russia’s total trade (down from 8.8374% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Germany was Russia’s 3rd largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2016 (just as in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 7.5864% of Russia’s total exports (up from 7.3194% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Germany was Russia’s 2nd largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2016 (just as in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 10.4740% of Russia’s total imports (down from 11.4261% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Germany

The major share of Russian exports to Germany in the 4th quarter of 2016 (and in the 4th quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 86.37% of Russia’s total exports to Germany (84.59% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.22% of Russia’s total exports to Germany (2.32% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.52% of Russia’s total exports to Germany (6.26% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.87% of Russia’s total exports to Germany (3.51% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
