In 2016, Russia’s trade with Japan was $16,064,027,852, down 24.62% ($5,245,913,803) from 2015.

Russia’s exports to Japan in 2016 were $9,384,191,795, down 35.27% ($5,113,074,111) from 2015.

Russia’s imports from Japan in 2016 were $6,679,836,057, down 1.95% ($132,839,692) from 2015.

Russia’s trade surplus with Japan in 2016 was $2,704,355,738, a 64.81% decrease ($4,980,234,419) over 2015.

Japan was Russia’s 7th largest trading partner in 2016 (just as in 2015), accounting for 3.4343% of Russia’s total trade (down from 4.0492% in 2015).

Japan was Russia’s 9th largest export market in 2016 (down from 7th in 2015), accounting for 3.2870% of Russia’s total exports (down from 4.2193% in 2015).

Japan was Russia’s 7th largest supplier in 2016 (down from 6th in 2015), accounting for 3.6650% of Russia’s total imports (down from 3.7293% in 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Japan

The major share of Russian exports to Japan in 2016 (and in 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 10.13% of Russia’s total exports to Japan (6.76% in 2015);

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 11.32% of Russia’s total imports from Japan (11.80% in 2015);
