Russia’s Trade with Malaysia
In the 4th quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Malaysia totaled $664,820,481, up 21.11% ($115,893,378) from the 4th quarter of 2015.
Russia’s exports to Malaysia in the 4th quarter of 2016 totaled $305,113,107, up 232.73% ($213,412,535) from the 4th quarter of 2015.
Russia’s imports from Malaysia in the 4th quarter of 2016 were $359,707,374, down 21.33% ($97,519,157) from the 4th quarter of 2015.
Russia’s trade deficit with Malaysia in the 4th quarter of 2016 was $54,594,267, a 85.06% decrease ($310,931,692) over the 4th quarter of 2015.
Malaysia was Russia’s 40th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2016 (up from 41st in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.4879% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.4198% in the 4th quarter of 2015).
Malaysia was Russia’s 45th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2016 (up from 67th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.3639% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.1112% in the 4th quarter of 2015).
Malaysia was Russia’s 29th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2016 (down from 26th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.6860% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.9459% in the 4th quarter of 2015).
Russia’s Exports to Malaysia
The major share of Russian exports to Malaysia in the 4th quarter of 2016 (and in the 4th quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:
- Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 83.63% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (58.55% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
- Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 6.01% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (22.66% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
- Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 5.53% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (1.95% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
- Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 2.08% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (4.05% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
- Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.60% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (7.15% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
- Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.10% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (5.58% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

- Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $201,031,649;
- Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $11,096,919;
- Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $3,881,640;
- Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $3,646,099;
- Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $1,615,284.
The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Malaysia in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:
- Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $3,480,769;
- Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $3,233,646;
- Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $1,204,060.

Russia’s Imports from Malaysia
The major share of Russian imports from Malaysia in the 4th quarter of 2016 (and in the 4th quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:
- Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 63.66% of Russia’s total imports from Malaysia (72.08% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
- Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 16.93% of Russia’s total imports from Malaysia (13.88% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
- Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 15.70% of Russia’s total imports from Malaysia (10.28% in the 4th quarter of 2015).
