Russia’s Trade with Mexico

In 2016, Russia’s trade with Mexico totaled $1,705,859,816, up 8.03% ($126,728,959) from 2015.

Russia’s exports to Mexico in 2016 totaled $1,061,453,617, up 7.20% ($71,256,179) from 2015.

Russia’s imports from Mexico in 2016 totaled $644,406,199, up 9.42% ($55,472,780) from 2015.

Russia’s trade surplus with Mexico in 2016 was $417,047,418, a 3.93% increase ($15,783,399) over 2015.

Mexico was Russia’s 46th largest trading partner in 2016 (up from 47th in 2015), accounting for 0.3647% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.3001% in 2015).

Mexico was Russia’s 42nd largest export market in 2016 (up from 49th in 2015), accounting for 0.3718% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.2882% in 2015).

Mexico was Russia’s 44th largest supplier in 2016 (just as in 2015), accounting for 0.3536% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.3224% in 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Mexico

The major share of Russian exports to Mexico in 2016 (and in 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 76.27% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (81.06% in 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 10.17% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (8.88% in 2015);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 7.94% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (2.74% in 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.40% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (1.36% in 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.58% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (2.16% in 2015);

  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $5,735,296;
  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - an increase of $5,050,000;
  • Other base metals; cermets; articles thereof (HS code 81) - an increase of $4,976,820.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Mexico in 2016 over 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $20,645,017;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $13,443,793;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $13,250,614;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $5,320,246;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $4,820,644.

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 9.96% of Russia’s total imports from Mexico (12.52% in 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 7.64% of Russia’s total imports from Mexico (6.61% in 2015);
