Russia’s Trade with Mexico

In the 4th quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Mexico totaled $468,260,027, up 27.62% ($101,342,727) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Mexico in the 4th quarter of 2016 totaled $293,794,820, up 25.45% ($59,610,175) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Mexico in the 4th quarter of 2016 totaled $174,465,207, up 31.44% ($41,732,552) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade surplus with Mexico in the 4th quarter of 2016 was $119,329,613, a 17.62% increase ($17,877,623) over the 4th quarter of 2015.

Mexico was Russia’s 49th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2016 (up from 52nd in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.3436% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.2806% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Mexico was Russia’s 46th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2016 (up from 53rd in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.3504% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.2841% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Mexico was Russia’s 44th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2016 (up from 49th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.3327% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.2746% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Mexico

The major share of Russian exports to Mexico in the 4th quarter of 2016 (and in the 4th quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 78.59% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (86.21% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 7.03% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (4.39% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 6.49% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (2.28% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.64% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (0.88% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 2.31% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (3.11% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.79% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (2.76% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Mexico in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $17,400,372;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $13,620,789;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $10,771,495;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $10,523,690;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $6,201,509;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $2,810,010;
  • Other base metals; cermets; articles thereof (HS code 81) - an increase of $1,036,680.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Mexico in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $1,423,501;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $1,096,778.

Russia’s Imports from Mexico

The major share of Russian imports from Mexico in the 4th quarter of 2016 (and in the 4th quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 68.99% of Russia’s total imports from Mexico (67.90% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 12.57% of Russia’s total imports from Mexico (3.56% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 10.47% of Russia’s total imports from Mexico (16.76% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.79% of Russia’s total imports from Mexico (7.30% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Mexico in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $17,624,777;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $14,620,962;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $7,746,094;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $6,727,655;
  • Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons (HS code 08) - an increase of $1,907,380;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $1,154,195;
  • Tanning or dyeing extracts; dyes, pigments, paints, varnishes, putty and mastics (HS code 32) - an increase of $583,238.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Mexico in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - a decrease of $5,472,499;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $1,509,546;
  • Preparations of vegetables, fruit, nuts or other parts of plants (HS code 20) - a decrease of $1,015,639;
  • Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal; parts thereof of base metal (HS code 82) - a decrease of $932,694;
  • Miscellaneous edible preparations (HS code 21) - a decrease of $837,127;
  • Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts and plans (HS code 49) - a decrease of $720,367.
